It’s Cold!

When I got in the car this morning, my thermometer read -2 degrees Fahrenheit. Yikes! Luckily for me, I have a job where I sit in a nice, warm office all day, and really only have to worry about bundling up to run to and from my (remote started!) car.

The poor guys working on our house, though? I can’t imagine what those working conditions must be like! Which is why I can’t say I don’t understand why there hasn’t been a ton happening at the house this week.

ImageFor those of you paying really close attention, you’ll see that we did get the gable over our garage, as well as the overhang above the office windows. And if you squint, you can see that our windows and sliding door are resting comfortably in the garage, waiting for installation. Unfortunately, due to — you guessed it — the cold, the sealant can’t cure until things warm up a bit.

The upstairs is all framed and ready for windows, too!

(I promise the guest bedroom will look a lot more inviting when there isn’t snow on the floor.)

Following window installation, electric and HVAC should be next on the docket.

Another update (that is probably less exciting to everyone but Troy and I) is that we spent a lot of time between the two of us shopping for the perfect mortgage, crunching the numbers, and calculating the cash flow into our savings account. I am thrilled and super proud to report that, financially, we will be ready for closing ahead of schedule and, God willing and pending any unforeseen expenditures, should even have a little bit of an emergency fund saved up prior to the big move. I can’t express how relieving this is. We’re coming up on the 100 Days Until Closing mark and knowing the financials are all worked out is a huge weight lifted off of our shoulders. Now I can be excited about the house and the move without that nagging voice in the back of my head saying, “But don’t forget to stress about money!”

The last update is a bit of a tease, but is too exciting not to share. We ordered our second piece of furniture this week in the form of a custom-made desk for the office. I’m not going to share any photos, since all we have is a mock-up that only kind of looks like what we’re getting, but I can tell you it is 100% “Michigan Made” — in more ways than one!

On that note, stay warm out there, friends!

  1. Looks great! Getting excited and a little jealous we have had no progress on our house but it will happen soon! Maybe if you can swing it, take the workers some nice hot coffee and donuts, I have heard it is much appreciated from a worker’s point of view 😉

    • Katie, fingers crossed that they will start soon! And coffee is a great idea, I definitely want them to feel appreciated, especially in this weather! Thanks for the tip!

  2. Thanks for keeping us all updated. I see Mother Nature has a warm up coming your way. Your house looks like it will be amazing. We are breaking ground on 1/19 so yeah pretty much ecstatic we are on schedule again. 🙂
